Suspected Paris Attack Terrorist Handed Over to France For Trial

By

It was confirmed that Salah Abdeslam, one of the suspects in the November Paris attack has been transferred to France from Belgium. He played a key role in the terrorism attack that killed 130 people. He was the Europe's most wanted fugitive and on March 18 was captured after a manhunt of four months.

According to investigators, Abdesalam stated that he was the one who arranged logistics for the Nov. 13 attacks and planned to blow himself up at a Paris sports stadium but changed his mind in the last minute, as reported by Hindustan Times.

High-profile criminal lawyer Frank Berton will lead Abdeslam's defense and had visited his client in his prison cell along with suspect's Belgian lawyer Sven Mary for more than two hours.

Abdesalam appeared before French magistrates on Wednesday and was placed under formal investigation. He was also questioned by Belgian police regarding his links to three suicide bombers who struck Brussels airport and metro on March 22nd that killed 32 people and injured hundreds more, The Guardian reports.

Salah Abdesalam, 26,  is a Belgium-born Frenchman thought by investigators to be the only survivor among a group of Islamist militants who took lives of 130 people in a cataclysm of shootings and suicide bombings on Nov. 13 in Paris.

"The investigation will determine to what degree he was involved in the acts ... for which he has been put under investigation," lawyer Frank Berton said after an initial hour-long hearing.

Brahim who was Salah Abdeslam's elder brother, used to operate a bar in the Brussels district of Molenbreek, blew himself up in a suicide bomb attack on one of the many Paris cafes aimed by a group of attackers armed with AK-47 rifles and suicide vests, based on the Reuters report.

Abdeslam's revelation to investigators indicated he may have been the tenth man referred to in an Islamic State claim of accountability for the multi-pronged attack on the stadium, bars and the Bataclan concert hall.
