Inquiry Challenges Mexico's Account on Vanishing of 43 Students; New Info Questions Criminal Justice System

By

It was back in September 2014 that the disappearance of 43 students shattered the world. Due to presumable lack of concreteness in the case, the Mexican authorities were drawing a closure to the national tragedy. That is until new information surfaced once again for the said case, stating the possibilities of what could have happened during the said night.

According to Today USA Extra, the 43 students from Ayotzinapa that disappeared rendered many families helpless on finding out what transpired. Granted it was an utter tradition for the Mexican students to go on trips, the authorities stated that the possibilities have gone up that the victims were apprehended by a drug gang that incinerated their bodies in a garbage dump around the city of Iguala, after which, the ashes were disposed of in a river.

Last Sunday, however, an international panel of experts that started to examine the disappearances over a year back disclosed that five suspects admitted that they spoke under torture or cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment. This is said to be one of the intolerable attributes that the Mexican courts see, and is considered not admissible, as per India Every Day.

As delivered by New York Times, the recent findings drove the masses to question the nation's criminal justice system, one which is claimed that now proves to be critically improper. Alejandro Valencia, a Colombian lawyer, was quoted on his statement regarding the matter, "The Ayotzinapa case has put the country at a crossroads, from which it has yet to emerge, and for that it needs a strengthening of the rule of law and of the defense, the guarantee and respect for human rights."

President Enrique Peña Nieto that went aboard last 2012 made a promise to reduce the rates of violence, but as of recently, faced continuous questionable remarks from the citizens. Furthermore, the fact that there were existent phone calls that could have pertained to where the victims were taken and the government failed to investigate it drew more suspicion from the community. Autopsies, so far, are also reliable sources but for the time being, the involved authorities are requesting for more to study.
