Gang of Local Surfers in Southern California Slapped With Lawsuit Following Harassment and Assaults

The gang of Southern California local beach surfers known for their long running harassment and assault on beachgoers faces a class-action lawsuit. The said group is allegedly terrorized people and keeping them out away from their territory-claimed surfing spot, Lunada Bay.

The Vice reported, Cory Spencer, Diana Reed along with the non-profit group, Coastal Protection Rangers filed the legal complaint against the gang of wealthy Palos Verdes Estates local surfers, whom they called themselves as Lunada Bay Boys. Eight names from the group were listed as defendants.

One of the plaintiffs, Reed said she was harassed by one of the members of the group by pouring a beer onto her as well exposing himself to her after she tried to surf the area. She reported to the police regarding the harassment, however, he declined to investigate further.

The lawsuit also includes the city of Palos Verdes Estates and the city police chief, Jeff Kepley is also accused of supporting the gang's efforts of restricting the beach area from non-locals. It also seeks worth of $30,000 each member of the group as compensatory damages, Surfer reported. It also asked the court to prevent the boys from the surfing spot.

Plaintiff's representing lawyer, Attorney Tyson Shower from Hanson Bridgett law firm said the lawsuit will bring change at Lunada Bay. He added naming the city and the local police as one of the defendants will force them to step up and to do their duty. The plaintiff initially claims, "Palos Verdes Estates has a long history of deliberate indifference in not investigating or otherwise policing acts of violence and vandalism against visiting beachgoers," Surfline quoted.

The gang had been protecting the area from the outsiders , including the waters of Lunada Bay, whether through physical devices or impediments. Their form of harassments includes threatening behavior intended to discourage public use of the coastline represents a change of access to water.
