The contract driver of Uber who was charged over the Kalamazoo shooting rampage filed a complaint against the ride-sharing app company. The man blamed the ride-sharing service app for his murderous actions as he claimed he was being controlled like a puppet by the app.
According to the Guardian, Jason Dalton filed a two-page handwritten complaint Tuesday, stating Uber caused him "psychological damage". He added the company treated him as a "second-class citizen". Dalton told the investigators that the ride-sharing app possessed his body and controlled him to shoot people, police reported on Monday.
Though the document includes Dalton's inmate number and Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office's return address, which he is currently imprisoned, authorities doubts the authenticity of the complaint. According to Paul Matyas, the sheriff's spokesman, they are suspicious of the document. "Our mail here does not come through Philadelphia, it comes through Grand Rapids. So we're suspicious of it, and it's something we'll go through tomorrow," he said.
Dalton is seeking $10 million as for compensation, citing "punitive damages and emotional distress," Fox6 Now reported. He also claimed in his complaint, his wife wants to divorce him because of the company and even denied a Christmas bonus. Police said, Dalton does not have a record of any mental health issues. However, he has been ordered to undergo a mental competency exam.
The 45 year old Uber contract driver is accused of killing six people and injuring two others in the western Michigan City over five hours on February 20 while picking up fares for ride-sharing service, Aol reported. He said on the night of the shootings, the icon on the Uber app that is normally red had changed to black. He told investigators he doesn't want to come across as a crazy person.
Dalton has been charged with murder and attempted murder in the shootings outside an apartment complex, a restaurant and at a car lot.
