‘Friday the 13th’ News: Michael Bay spills why he abandoned 2009 reboot as producer; Jason Voorhees actor injured during motion capture for video game

'Friday the 13th' is a planned reboot of the popular slasher film franchise from the 1970s. Michael Bay reportedly exited the 2009 remake as producer due to concerns of "too much sex" in the film. Meanwhile, Jason Voorhees actor Kane Hodder sustained injuries during a motion capture session for the film's video game.

The popular American slasher film first released in the 1980s earned its 12th installment in the franchise in 2009 in the form of a reboot directed by Marcus Nispel. The film earned $91.4 million against a $19 million budget. It was written for the big screen by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift and was produced by Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and Sean S. Cunningham.

Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes financed Nispel's reboot. The filmmaker himself was on-board to serve as producer until he walked out on the project. According to Cinema Blend, the 50-year old reportedly abandoned the film due to "too much sex" as well as nudity on-screen.

Bay is well-known for his own style of filmmaking that involves fast cutting, highly stylized visuals and special effects as well as the frequent use of explosions. He worked on several big-budget blockbuster action films such as 'Armageddon', 'Pearl Harbor', 'The Island' as well as the 'Transformers' live-action series. He premiered his latest war-thriller film '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi' last month.

According to Moviepilot, speculations emerged regarding the 'Friday the 13th' franchise being connected to the 'Transformers' cinematic series. Travis Van Winkle's character Trent DeMarco allegedly appeared in both 2009's 'Friday the 13th' and 2007's 'Transformers'. Coincidentally, he is the same exact arrogant jock in both films produced by Bay.

Meanwhile, Kane Hodder shared an image of his biceps covered in bruises after a motion caption session for the film's video game. According to Bloody Disgusting, the iconic Jason Voorhees actor badly injured his upper arm but revealed that he was "healing just fine".

The 60-year old actor and professional stuntman is best known for his portrayal of Jason, the mask-wearing murderer, in four films in the franchise. Hodder also worked on other horror-thriller films including 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', 'Wishmaster', 'The Devil's Rejects', 'Children of the Corn V' and the 'Hatchet' series.

'Friday the 13th' is an upcoming reboot of the popular slasher films from the 1980s. The franchise followed the story of Jason, a murderer who sought out revenge after drowning in Camp Crystal Lake as a boy. The 12 films in the franchise collectively grossed over $465 million at the international box-office.
