James Cameron has been working on the Avatar 2 for years and it could be moving ahead into filming this coming April. Plot speculations have also surfaced pertaining to the possible direction that the sequel is heading.

As reported by Ecumenical News, latest update about the much anticipated sequel suggest that it will finally move on to filming. Shooting will be set in New Zealand and Manhattan Beach, California on April 15. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are expected to return as Jake Sully and  Neytiri.

Sigourney Weaver  and Stephen Lang have also been previously hinted by Cameron to return although they were previously thought to have died in the previous film. According to MNR Daily, if the sequel pushes through with its December 2017 release date, it could be up against Star Wars VIII which also has a large cult following.

Debates have begun on who would end up with larger earnings, some argue that the heightened expectations and anticipation for Avatar 2 might not bode well for its Star Wars rival, although, both films are expected to be box office hits worldwide.

Official plot details for the sequel are currently under wraps, however, as reported by Movie News Guide, the next film is rumored to feature Neytiri and Jake Sully begin their new life, with their children. It is speculated that Jake and Neytiri's children would be highlighted in the sequel.

Saldana also previously hinted that the sequel will be heart-wrenching as it would center on themes of family, and prison. As was previously revealed about the film, it is expected to explore on the ocean ecosystem which would take the audience to the inner depths of the place.

Cameron also previously said that part of the delay of Avatar 2 was the lack of proper technology to film underwater scenes. He explained that the technology had to be built which took time. Avatar 2 is expected to be released in Christmas time in 2017.
