‘Captain America: Civil War’ receives highest marks since ‘The Winter Soldier’; Test screenings met with positive fan reaction

'Captain America: Civil War' is an upcoming action-adventure and superhero film in the MCU's Phase Three. Its test screenings were met with generous positive fan reaction and bested its predecessor 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'.

According to Collider, 'Captain America: Civil War' held the highest marks for test screening since 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and is speculated to be Marvel's best-testing movie to date.

It is currently undergoing test screenings and reshoots before it premieres in theaters on May 6, 2016. The screenings have been met with positive reactions so far. Devin of Birth.Movies.Death commented, "[in] fact, the only thing they disagree on is whether the movie tested as well as or better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which had previously been the best-testing Marvel movie."

The preceding film, 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', earned $714 million at the box office since its release on March 13, 2014.  It became the seventh highest-grossing film for that year and was met with critical praise. It also earned Chris Evans a People's Choice Award for Favorite Action Movie Actor.

According to Screen Crush, the upcoming film's darker elements may be attributed to the success of the test screenings so far. It was rumored that a few key characters will meet their ultimate demise and eventually leave the MCU for good.

Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America. Robert Downey Jr. will join him as Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man. Although the two have been allies in the previous 'Avengers' films, they will find themselves polarized towards the enactment of a new government act regulating superhero activity.

According to Moviepilot, Cap and Iron Man will battle it out in 'Captain America: Civil War' together with respective teams. It was speculated that Iron Man's guilt over the infamous Stamford Incident, a careless murder of over 600 people, motivated him to support the government's Superhuman Registration Act. In the comic books, Iron Man grieved over the death of numerous civilians and found a need to push for the reforms even if it meant turning against an ally.

'Captain America: Civil War' is an upcoming action-thriller and science-fiction film intended as the sequel to 'Captain America: Winter Soldier'. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo based on the screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It is scheduled to premiere on May 6, 2016.
