'Pacific Rim 2' Updates: Film not cancelled says Guillermo del Toro; Creative team needs more time to exceed 1st movie

By

Director Guillermo del Toro says that Pacific Rim's sequel is coming and that he's still attached to direct it. The director wrote in Twitter that fans need not to believe everything they read on the internet and that the reason for the delay is for the creative team to have more time to continue its efforts to exceed the incredible cinematic experience of the first Pacific Rim.

Hollywood Reporter reported that Guillermo del Toro is worried about some fans who believes that the Pacific Rim 2 is not happening. He guarantees everyone that everything is in the right place and that he will remain as a part of it one way or another. The famous director was originally scheduled to have followed Crimson Peak, which was released with the follow-up to his cult 2013 movie.  Moreover, last week it was announced that he was in talks to develop a new version of James Cameron's Fantastic Voyage.

Last fall, not long before the filming was projected to commence, Universal Studio placed Pacific Rim 2 on hold. There were speculations on the internet saying that Pacific Rim 2 will not happen because the studio wanted to focus on another sci-fi project, but Del Toro disagrees, as cited by Slash Film.

Also, according to Screen Crush, the production company Legendary Pictures, who produced the first Pacific Rim might be in the process of being acquired by a Chinese conglomerate. This is important since Pacific Rim made more money in China than in any other nations, international and domestic.

Pacific Rim 2 has its shares of upside down, and changes were made for some time. Universal Studio scheduled Pacific Rim 2 for summer 2017 release last June but then removed it from the calendar altogether the following month of September.

Meanwhile, Universal and Legendary Pictures said that both film companies remained committed to Pacific Rim 2. Fans can now relax knowing all parties involved still want to make Pacific Rim 2 and they want to do it better than the first one.
