Former Cop, Andre Murphy, Allegedly Kills Ex-Wife Catina Lareese Murphy In Murder-Suicide

Andre Murphy, a former Texas cop shot and murdered his ex-wife Catina Lareese Murphy in her DeSota home on Wednesday before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide, the Huffington Post reported.

The incident took place on the same day the couple's divorce was finalized.

According to authorities, Murphy kicked in the front door and then bolted up the stairs, shooting Catina as she pleaded with a 9-11 operator to send help.

"It's a tragic situation," DeSota police Captain Ron Smith said, commenting that the couple's daughter now will live her life as an orphan. "Not only did two people die, but a young child lost her parents."

Even as authorities believe the case was a murder-suicide, it may not be definite, as sources tell CBS DFW police are considering the possibility that Murphy was killed by his ex-wife after he shot her.

Murphy was a former school security guard, in a year that  included years in law enforcement. He was a peace officer with the Arlington Police Department from 2001 until 2002.

The 40-year-old worked as an officer with the Cedar Hill Independent School District for nearly four years, which ended last May.

"We're like a family on this street for this to happen in baffled," said Charmayne Price, told CBS-DFW. "I can't describe I haven't slept. Just knowing we lost two people who lived on this street who were like family to us, it's very disturbing."
