‘The 5th Wave’ Movie Gets Lackluster Response Even with Chloe Moretz, Aliens in it

By

Friday last week, "The 5th Wave" film starring teen actress Chloe Moretz was released in the theaters. The post apocalyptic movie about Cassie Sullivan wanting to survive with her brother was deemed just like any other young adult movies. For the most reviews, the movie scored half but some scored even lower than half.

Coming Soon said the film was like "The Hunger Games" with "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or "Twilight" with aliens. Having the same love triangle as "Twilight" and teen female hero like "Divergent" and "Hunger Games", the movie differentiated itself with other YA films as it showed the before, during and after of the apocalyptic world. It was shown how Cassie Sullivan (Chloe Moretz) was doing as a high school student and how she managed to survive everything while the world was being destroyed. Moretz showed great acting but one actress cannot save the whole movie especially if her co-actors are just bland.

In Rolling Stone's review, they said that "The 5th wave" cannot be saved even by Moretz. It looked doable from the book as it can improve to a movie. However, like what the other reviewers said, the movie does not have depth and is just like the other teen movies. They also said that not even Chloe Moretz can salvage the said film.

The best thing about it was how the world was destroyed with the five waves. The first one was the turning off of power. Second was the earthquake. Third are the viruses that spread. After that, the fourth wave was "others" or the aliens invading the Earth. Lastly, the last battle occurred.

The Verge stated that the movie looked rushed especially the ending. The beginning sequence was actually good but after that it was boring. It was like the budget was all used up in the first half of the movie. They called the movie as having "horror without fear, science fiction without ideas".

The movie was adopted from Rick Yancey's book in 2013. The film target audiences are the teenagers like all the other young adult movies. Some people might not find it good but if you love "The Hunger games" and "Twilight" this movie is definitely made for you. Go watch it as it is still in theaters worldwide.
