Pacific Rim 2 Not Cancelled: del Toro Confirms Second Installment

By

Good news came for those who are excited about Pacific Rim, as director Guillermo del Toro confirms the movie's second installment.

Fans of Pacific Rim were shocked upon reading rumors about the possibility of its second part being delayed. The reports stated that del Toro was thinking about being involved in the remake of Fantastic Voyage.

However, the director took to his Twitter account to quickly shut down rumors about the cancellation. Del Toro even added assurance that no matter what happens in his career or with production, he will remain involved in the project.

"Pac Rim 2 cancelled? Don't believe anything you read. It's still going and I'll remain w it in one way or another!" posted the director in his Twitter account, dated January 11, as published by Den of Geek.

One of the most recent updates regarding Pacific Rim 2 was from the director, who posted details about the script in his Twitter account. In October, del Toro posted that he had already turned in the script and budget for the second installment. The director's comment stating "one way or another" could mean that he will not be sitting in the director's seat anymore.

It could be possible that either Travis Beacham or Zak Penn, two other people involved in writing the script, will direct in case del Toro decides to sit the sequel out.

Apparently, a major studio takeover saved the production of the sequel. Cinema Blend reports that Legendary Entertainment will take over the second installment. Legendary Cinema, through the help of investment firm Dalian Wanda Group, seem to have no qualms funding the project and it seems like a sound investment, considering how the first movie made over $ 411 million in box office sales, reports Movieweb.com.
