Samsung has officially set the Galaxy J5 smartphone to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow via over-the-air (OTA) update in the coming months. The upgrade will bring in new key features and optimizations for the device.

Samsung Galaxy J5 has been revealed to be the latest addition to the roadmap plans of the South Korean giant to get the official OTA update of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The device comes along with Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J2.

However, there is no official word coming from mobile carriers as to when they are going to release the update to their versions of the device. Further, Samsung assured they already got the partner support from some carriers which it never mentioned.

The tech giant is now busy preparing the beta version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, as it is slated to come out officially in February. Devices eligible for the beta version are the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Android 6.0 comes with the following features:

1.     Apps Permissions. This feature provides users better control of the permissions of downloaded apps through "allow" and "reject" options every access to a feature.

2.     Fingerprint support. Fingerprint functions to confirm purchases, unlock phones and purchase at any online shop.

3.     App drawer. The horizontal scroll has been replaced with a vertical bar against a white background. It also shows the four most recently used apps across the top of the menu.

4.     Power and charging. With Doze and app standby, power and charging can economically work together to save battery life.

5.     Google Now. This feature becomes smarter. It knows different contexts, provides answers and helps users take action.

Meanwhile, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon Wireless have not commented yet if they are joining the soak test of the software. For now, the beta version is made available to unlocked and retails versions only.
