iOS 9.3 introduces new features like Wifi Assist with isage figure, 3D Touch shortcuts, night shift mode, and more

iOS 9.3 is now available via developer preview. As the release of the final version is nearly approaching, there are promising new features that the update offers. Some of these include 3D Touch shortcuts, night shift mode, third-party health apps, and extra features for teaching tools.

CNET enumerated the updates of the new version which include changes in the setting of phone screen's color, especially during night time. Bright white and blue can now be switched to warmer colors like red, orange, and yellow. Such innovation is supported by a research wherein, blue light emitted by LED screens halts the production of melatonin. Melatonin is the hormone that mandates the brain to sleep.

MacRumors reported that an iPhone 6 display measures in at about 7100K, while an iPad Air 2 display is slightly warmer at 6900K. The aforementioned lighting spectrum, 6900K and 7100K blue light levels are similar to the light on a bright, cloudy day outdoors. This change can take effect by going to the Settings app and choosing Display & Brightness Section. From this page, just toggle on Blue Light Reduction.

More so, related report noted that News app can now show stories, articles, and suggested trending topics of news. The humble Notes app can now also be protected through a password. An update for health app also offers third party apps that can connect to wellness dashboard. CNET stated that CarPlay gets upgrades courtesy of Apple Music and Maps. The update includes extra features or smart tools for teachers and students, especially to iPads.

On the other hand, Forbes said that there is a new feature that Apple chose not to mention in its release notes. The feature is WiFi Assist with usage figure that was first spotted by MacRumors. This can be found by going to the Settings, then Cellular (Mobile Data in UK) and WiFi Assist. Below of such page can show the data usage figures. The feature was not available in iOS 9 which did not provide how much data was being consumed on the customer's data plans without going to the carrier directly.

It is known that a case was filed against Apple with a $5M Class Action lawsuit from a user who faced a carrier bill of over $2,000. In response to this, Apple has now published a WiFi Assist guidance page for iOS 9.3.
