'Cruella' is an upcoming live-action adaptation and origin story focusing on the iconic Disney villain of the same name. It may feature Emma Stone in the lead role. Production is scheduled to begin some time in 2016.
According to The Guardian, Stone is in early negotiations to play the big baddie Cruella De Vil in her very own live-action standalone film set to begin production some time in 2016. It was reported that the movie will be an origins film which likely explains the casting decision for a younger actress. It will be based on a screenplay penned by British screenwriter and actress Kelly Marcel who also worked for films such as 'Saving Mr. Banks' and 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.
Stone made her film debut in the 2007 comedy 'Superbad', which starred Jonah Hill and Michael Cera in the lead roles. She went on to act in several comedy films including 'Easy A' - where she earned a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy - as well as 'Crazy, Stupid, Love', 'The House Bunny' and 'Zombieland'. She is also best known for playing Spider-Man's early love interest Gwen Stacy in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' cinematic series.
The 27-year old actress gained further critical acclaim for her work in 'The Help', where she won several accolades including People's Choice Awards for Favorite Movie Actress. In 2015, she was nominated an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Alejandro G. Inarritu's black comedy 'Birdman'. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she last appeared in 'Aloha' and 'Irrational Man' and will star in the upcoming musical comedy 'La La Land' will long-time collaborator Ryan Gosling.
Cruella De Vil first appeared on Dodie Smith's 1956 novel 'The Hundred and One Dalmatians'. According to Harper's Bazaar, Disney later adapted it into two full feature animated films '101 Dalmatians' and '101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure', released in 1961 and 2003 respectively. The studio eventually created two more live-action adaptations '101 Dalmatians' and '102 Dalmatians' with Oscar-nominee Glenn Close playing Cruella.
'Cruella' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular Disney animated films of the same name. It will be produced by Andrew Gunn with Kristin Burr and Jessica Virtue overseeing for the studio. Disney is hoping to start production this year.
