Android 6.0 Marshmallow is just a step closer to Moto G (3rd Gen) as Motorola is now just waiting for partner support. Moto G (3rd Gen) is now waiting for the approval from partner carriers AT&T and Sprint. The update is expected to come as soon as this month as other Motorola devices have already been update with Marshmallow. These include the Moto X Pure Edition of Sprint, US Cellular and Verizon as well as the unlocked and retail versions.

One of Motorola's flagship smartphones for 2015 had first been reported to receive the update before the year ends but it never happened. However, other devices promised for the update indeed received Marshmallow in December last year.

The support page of the tech giant told that its software updates to the third generation Moto G has already been confirmed for the update to come in this quarter, as early as January. Carrier versions might come a few days, weeks or even months after depending on the workout of the mobile carriers.

Aside from 2015 Moto G and Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen), Motorola has also confirmed the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to eight other devices including 2015 Moto X Style (3rd Gen), Moto X Play (3rd Gen), Moto X Pure Edition (2nd Gen) or 2014 Moto X in the US, Moto X (2nd Gen) in Latin America, Europe and Asia, Moto G (2014), Moto G (2014) with LTE, DROID Turbo, Moto MAXX (2014), Moto Turbo (2014).

Android 6.0 Marshmallow features Now on Tap, improved app permissions, Doze, overhauled app drawer and more.

Now on Tap is the addition to Google Now which becomes more intuitiv. It now has various range of contexts and recommendations based on the sphere of interests of the user.

The new apps permissions gives device owners more convenient management of the permissions of downloaded apps, to allow or deny permissions every use of an app and not at the point of installation.
