George Zimmerman: Mother of Trayvon Martin Shooter, Gladys Zimmerman Defends Son on CNN’s Piers Morgan Show (Watch Video)

Gladys Zimmerman, mother of George Zimmerman-who has been accused of second degree murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, told CNN's Piers Morgan that he son shot the unarmed teenager in self-defense and that she was sure the jury will conclude the same.

"I believe in the judicial system...I believe from the beginning that, you know, he is innocent,"

Gladys appeared on the Piers Morgan Show Tuesday night. The interview was conducted via video. She delivered the entire interview in dark lighting so as not to reveal her identity.

When asked why she agreed to speak out at her son's defense so late in the case, she cited that "death threats made it very dangerous for us to come out and defend our son."

Morgan asked her what her reaction was when she found out that her son had shot Martin, Gladys responded that it was a "nightmare - I just couldn't believe what had happened."

Gladys reiterated that the media was largely responsible for creating such a low impression of her son and that once the evidence was out in court, the jury would agree. "The media had played a big role against my son," she said, "They had portrayed him in a bad -- bad picture. But there is justice in America, and I believe in justice."

Morgan asked her "What do you have to say to Martin's family, from one mother to another mother," to which Gladys responded "I am deeply sorry for what had happened... it is a tremendous tragedy for both families."

Earlier this week, Mark O'Mara, attorney of George Zimmerman, filed a petition Monday to have access to all personal information of the 17-year-old. This information includes school records, cell-phone information as well as all social media activity. O'Mara claims that all the information is imperative to defense.

Sanford Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson has scheduled a hearing for October 19, in which she will decide whether or now to grant  Zimmerman's team access to the records.

Zimmerman was arrested in February for the killing of the 17-year-old, Zimmerman who was armed shot Martin after claiming that he was attacked by the teenager and fired in an act of self-defense. The 28-year-old Zimmerman has maintained the claim to self-defense from the beginning of the case.
