American actor and rapper Donald Glover is now slated to voice Simba in the upcoming live-action remake of the Disney film "The Lion King". Glover will be joined by Academy Award nominee James Earl Jones who will reprise his role as Mufasa.

RollingStone has reported that the Jon Favreau-directed "Lion King" remake will see the Childish Gambino rapper voice the iconic role of Simba. The upcoming live adaptation of the 1994 film also welcomes the reprisal of James Earl Jones as Simba's father Mufasa. The publication has added that the "Lion King" remake will be utilizing CGI technology along with a green screen to adapt the much-loved animated film to a live action movie.

Prior to the official casting of Glover, he and Favreau met in a panel discussion on creativity where the filmmaker has shared to the rapper, "By the way, full disclosure: I see your face everyday when I wake up my 15-year old son because on his door is a portrait of you." The Hollywood Reporter has also noted that Favreau is planning to build upon his work on "Jungle Book" that featured a human child actor with a live jungle and animals. The director has notably headlined the American fantasy adventure musical film in 2016 which grossed $966.6 million.

The inclusion of Donald Glover in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of "Lion King" cements his status as one of the Hollywood favorites today. He was recently cast as Lando Calrissian in the next "Star Wars" anthology film in which the story will focus on a young Han Solo. The Golden Globe winner "Atlanta" star is also set to reprise his role in the comedy-drama television series as Earnest Marks. Another high-profile character of Glover will also make its debut on the imminent "Spider-Man: Homecoming" which will star Tom Holland as the titular superhero.
